Thigh Lift
A thigh lift is a procedure that helps patients achieve a smoother, more athletic contour by removing excess fat and loose skin on the thighs. Aging, pregnancy, and weight loss can result in excess skin that can completely change your figure. With a thigh lift, the aim is to create a more aesthetically pleasing thigh contour.

About Thigh Lifts
Thigh lift surgery, also known as thighplasty, addresses excess skin on the thighs, sagging or drooping thighs, and the effects of weight loss and aging on the appearance of the thighs. Excess skin can change the way your clothes fit and the way you feel about your body, but there is no need to live with uncomfortable excess skin. A thigh lift can restore your figure and help you get your old body back.
Thigh Lift After Weight Loss
Excess skin after weight loss is a common issue because excess fat stretches the skin. We can combine a thigh lift with liposuction for weight loss patients and make strategic incisions to correct severe sagging (ptosis) for a natural look to enhance your natural body shape. For weight loss patients, we can also combine a thigh lift with other body contouring procedures such as an arm lift, tummy tuck, or as part of a mommy makeover.
Thigh Lift Benefits
The benefits of a thigh lift include the following:
- Improved body proportions
- Enhanced self-confidence
- Better clothing fit and comfort
- Elimination of chafing and irritation
- Smoother and more toned appearance
- Removal of stubborn fat deposits
- Restoration of youthful thigh appearance
Thigh Lift Candidates & Consultation
The best candidates for a thigh lift have excess skin that is causing discomfort that they wish to remove to feel better in their bodies. During your consultation, Dr. Salibian will discuss your expectations, current medications, medical history, and lifestyle to create a treatment plan that will help you achieve your desired look.
How to Prepare for a Thigh Lift
To prepare for a thigh lift, you will be given preoperative instructions and guidelines to follow for a seamless recovery. You will be seeing your primary care doctor for medical clearance beforehand, you will need to stop taking blood thinning medication and anti-inflammatory supplements approximately 1-2 weeks before your procedure. If you smoke cigarettes or vape, you will need to quit 6 weeks before and arrange for time off work to help your body heal. If you are taking Ozempic or similar weight loss drugs, you would need to stop three weeks before the surgical date. A thigh lift is an outpatient surgical procedure. Please arrive at the surgery center in comfortable clothing that you can easily remove and put back on after your procedure.
Thigh Lift Procedure
Dr. Salibian will design strategically placed incisions based on the specific type of thigh lift being performed. Incision patterns and locations will vary depending on the amount and location of excess skin and fat to be removed. Depending on the severity of excess skin, the incision may extend to the top of the hip.
- Standard Thigh Lift: Incisions are typically placed in the groin area, extending downward along the inner thigh with varying lengths depending on the amount of excess tissue to be removed.
- Crescent Thigh Lift: Incisions are placed along the upper inner thigh, near the groin only, in a crescent pattern hidden within the natural groin crease.
- Extended Thigh Lift: Incisions are made along the anterior groin crease and extended posteriorly within the natural buttock crease and downward along the inner thigh towards the knee at varying lengths depending on the amount of skin that is required to be removed. The anterior groin incision is sometimes extended in a circular fashion along the lower buttock crease and around the hip for a circumferential thigh lift.
Thigh Lift Recovery
The recovery after a thigh lift is not as painful as expected despite the incisions and their locations being by the groin and near sensitive private parts. Most patients recover with minimal discomfort and pain. The perioperative instructions will guide you through the recovery process. You will be dressed in a specialized lower body garment after the procedure to help with swelling, and pain, and aid in the healing process. It is important to wear these garments as instructed by Dr. Salibian. The recovery will take approximately two weeks. Gradual reintroduction of light exercises and regular activities will be recommended once you are cleared by Dr. Salibian. You will have scheduled follow-up appointments with Dr. Salibian to monitor your recovery progress, assess incision healing, and address any concerns or questions you may have.
Thigh Lift Results
Patients enjoy a fast, smooth recovery with beautiful long-term results. You will immediately see a difference after a thigh lift procedure and your clothes will fit better. Your thighs will be smoother and you will have a more athletic and youthful thigh contour after the removal of the excess skin. Dr. Salibian is careful to make discrete incisions that are carefully closed and easily concealed that heal beautifully.

FAQ
Will I have scars from a thigh lift?
You will have discreet scars that heal well and/or you can easily conceal beneath your clothing.
How long is a thigh lift procedure?
A thigh lift procedure usually takes three to four hours to complete depending on the extent of the surgery.
Can I lose weight with a thigh lift?
Thigh lifts are not intended for weight loss purposes but rather to address loose or sagging skin on the thighs. A thigh lift will best benefit a patient who has already lost the excess body weight and now is ready to improve his or her body image. If you are seeking significant weight loss, we recommend focusing on a healthy diet, exercise, and overall health-focused lifestyle changes to enhance the results of a thigh lift procedure.
How can I maintain the results of my thigh lift?
You can maintain the results of a thigh lift by simply walking daily or exercising regularly and eating healthy meals to maintain a stable body weight and overall healthy lifestyle.
Can I combine a thigh lift with other cosmetic procedures?
If the other cosmetic procedures are not too time-consuming, it is possible to combine them with a thigh lift, although a thigh lift alone can be extensive and the recovery would not be as comfortable when both below and above the torso are operated on in one setting. However, it is an individual choice and in some patients, it would be the preferred option than staging the thigh before or after upper body or abdominal cosmetic procedures.
